About Me:
I started drawing at the age of 5. My mother bought me a sketch book, some chalk pastels, charcoal, and drawing pencils. From then on I was hooked. I started by recreating works of the classical painters. I would steal any books from my mother that had paintings in them and draw everything that I saw.
I very quickly learned that it was hard to translate paintings into drawings, so I started to work towards figure study. I would draw from books, from life, anyone and anything that would hold still long enough. As I started to develop my own style in black and white, I wanted to progress to color. Unfortunately, due to some disparaging remarks about my ability to learn color from a previous art teacher, I decided not to pursue it at that time.
I was placed in accelerated classes in High School. I was then accepted to the Kansas City Art Institute after graduation. Due to some extenuating circumstances I was not able to attend until later. I started there in 2009 and I am still working to get a degree in Art History, with a minor in Printmaking.
Currently, I am working through my phobia of color. I've been working at it for a few years, and am still trying to find my niche. Mainly, I'm trying to get my name out there and am hoping to network with other artists. I feel inspired by other great works and love to bounce ideas off of other creative minds. Please feel free to contact me through Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or via email!

About My Art:
I like to think of my artistic style as Abstract Surrealism. I re-create everyday normal things into something different and new. I try to give the viewer something they have never seen before, yet is still recognizable to them.
In addition, I also enjoy bringing a tangible persona to any emotions that I'm feeling. Creating a scene to express something that has no physical presence is fascinating to me. It almost makes it easier to cope with the feelings when you have something you can reach out and touch. While i rarely discuss the meanings of my pieces i can assure you everything has a double meaning.
I enjoy hearing what other people come up with when looking at a piece of my artwork for the first time. I've gotten everything from "It's the Garden of Eden," to "I think it's a tree.....that's a tree, right?" I create pieces, not to make sense or to duplicate what you've seen a thousand times, but rather to make you want to sit and stare at it for long periods of time. To me that is the ultimate compliment.
